Govt Puts EV Infrastructure, Reviving Gas-based Plants.

A senior government official said that, they are expecting that the power ministry is going to appeal to the union cabinet within next 100 days for a subsidy mechanism to relaunch the gas based power projects. There are nearly 25000 megawatts of functional gas based projects which was stopped due to lack of fuel.

By the time of this 100 days in office, the government will look into the plans and goals to set up charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The main cities they will be focusing on being, Delhi, Gurgaon, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Within this plan Delhi will also receive Battery swapping centers and Charging Stations for e-rickshaws.

The ministry is planning to develop a gas auction mechanism, by pooling domestically produced gas with LNG and subsidize the tariff of it. According to the committee, which was guided by the cabinet secretary PK Sinha, The power and Oil ministries are making a scheme to electronically auction imported and re-gasified LNG.

There were some EVs offered to the government officials by Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra for the usage experience. These EV’s Milage made them really unhappy. These EVs claimed to deliver the range of 130Km on a full charge, but it was able to go only 85 Km.

The Tender’s Tiger EV was certified for a Range of 142Km in its ARAI test, But it was only able to deliver 130Km. Anyways the mileage range always changes based on ones driving habits and Roads the drive on. One of the Tata Motors spokesperson said, “The range of the vehicle varies from individual to individual and depends on the driving habits, road and traffic conditions.”

The government officials asked the Tata Motors and M&M to increase the battery strength so that it can give an average mileage of 120Km in both normal roads and traffic conditions. Both the auto makers have supplied nearly 1500 vehicles to Energy Efficiency Services (EESL).

EESL’s MD Saurabh Kumar Said,Only a few officials have complained and he also said “Obviously, the range will be better under standard test conditions than normal road conditions. This is also true for cars with internal combustion engines. The range has a lot to do with the driving behavior and traffic conditions,”.

According to Kumar the focus have shifted from EVs to installing charging stations as the demand for charging stations is more than the demand for EVs.
