The first electric motorcycle in India that you never heard of just got angel funding Tork Motorcycles, they are the manufacturers of electric motorcycles in India. They raised an undisclosed amount of angel funding from multiple number of investors, including Ankit Bhati and Bhavish Agarwal the Cofounders of Harpreet Grover and Ola.
The funding raised by the firm will be helping them to introduce the first prototype into the market. Tork was found by Kapil Shelke in the year 2009. They are currently working on building practical electric mobility vehicles in India.
They are not new to the electric vehicle industry, they have already proved their ability on internal circuits by finishing third at the prestigious Mecca of electric racing, The Isle of Man TT. They have also won the World’s premier electric motor sport race series, TTXGP. After the release of the prototype and scaling their processes their next goal is to set up a manufacturing unit.
Additionally Kapil Shelke said that they will be possibly raising another set of funds when they need them. They have planned to launch their first model T6X this year. The motorcycle has several features like cloud connectivity, integrated GPS, and in-build navigation capabilities all these features make the bike as the first smart bike in India.
It can be connected with a mobile app and map the driving cycles and provide real time information about the bike.
They have focused on having a 2X range than any other electric vehicle which made them to engineer the vehicle to run above 100KM on a single charge. And the operation of the vehicle will be 10 times cheaper than the petrol bikes of similar type.
The main key to their cheaper pricing is their engineering parts, they have added only one moving part in their modeling . Their main focus until now is getting the bike on the road as soon as possible. When this smart bike is introduced every youngster’s preferred bike will be the T6X.
